The Department of FSSAI on 21st August 2020 has released a draft regulation for Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendments Regulations, 2020 framed under FSS Act, 2006.
These regulations are not yet notified and are likely to take some time to come up with final regulation.
However, these regulations have been operationalized w.e.f 11th August 2020. Earlier it was 10th February 2020
The regulation specifies the limit of naturally occurring formaldehyde in freshwater and marine fish along with hygienic and sanitary conditions to be followed while handling, processing, manufacturing, packing, storing, distributing and transporting and retail of fish and pish products under FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Amendments Regulations, 2020.
Such regulations shall be followed by all Food Business Operators with immediate effect . In case of noncompliance of the regulations, notice under section 32 of FSS Act, 2006 may be issued to respective Food Business Operators and accordingly action must be taken by the competent authority.
